POLITICAL WORLD IS TOUGH FOR WOMEN.

The number of women in national parliaments increased by only 0.1 percentage point globally in 2017 from 2016. from 23.3% to 23.4%. This is despite an increase in the percentage pf seats won by women in parliamentary elections worldwide last year.

This is according to a review released on Friday by the Geneva-based Inter-Parliamentary Union         (IPU), ahead of International Women`s Day.

A record number of women contested elections held in 2017, and more seats were won by women than in previous years: 27.1% compared with 22.3% in 2016. This was largely due to measures such as electoral quotas for women, it noted.

" It is vital that women are part of decision-making institutions such as parliament. It is fundamental , not just for gender equality but also for democracy and the legitimacy of the process thereof." Regional highlights outlined by the IPU review:

  8. some men live in the old century where women were supposed to take care of children and perform house chores and men were the bread winners of the family. but now this is a 21st century where men and women are supposed to be equal. women must stand up and strive for themselves claim what's theirs (equality).

    #women in power

  9. It is not for us men to fight for or against women. All we have to do is to give them a chance to prove their capabilities, more especially the black women power is denied before it endeavour.

  10. But in some other countries like South Africa, women are in power because more than 40% of women are ministers and also the speaker of the South African national parliament is a woman.

  11. I also think that women must be given chances to prove themselves. Not allowing them at all operations and decision-makings of the country would be discriminating them and also violating their right of equality.

  12. We always talking about what needs to be done and nothing actually gets done. I'm tired of hearing about what will be done or when. I cannot wait till 2050 to see a change in a woman's life. It needs to happen now.

  13. I agree. Women need to be part of the decision making for countries because the effects of these decisions not only affect the country but also the governing sector. With women in power, there would be some stability in each country.

  16. we all the same ,we should be treated the same way, women have everything we have and also have the power that we all have ...so we shouldn't treat women like they are below the horizon.

  17. I believe in human equality, granting women more power should also be done equally. Yes they should dominate more in making decisions but they should not be granted positions because they are women, they should have capabilities!.

  22. I love the fact that women are actually starting to make their marks in politics, it shows that they are capable of being leaders and being part of the nation's vital decisions. I think it is of great significance that women are given the support they need, that they are encouraged, politically the world is heading to a better place

  23. Going trough the article and the comments one sentiment keeps coming up "give women power". I think this sentiment is the reason why women don't have power. It is common knowledge that if you want something you must take it and by force if it is necessary. It is also common knowledge that those in power don't just voluntarily relinquish power they have to be forced to let go of it. Men have been in power since the time of Eden, although since then a lot has changed. If women want power my advice is to take it because no one is going to just give power away

  24. Men don't want to be led by women, for what good reason?
Women can do things that men can not do, that is pretty clear and known...
So let women show the power within them
